The data behind the analysis
Radar, weather models and supporting evidence from traceable sources. HailSignal analyses these data â each alert identifies its sources.
Radar, lightning & models · USA
NWS ground reports · Iowa State University
Hail radar · Switzerland
Satellite lightning data · Europe
Official warnings · CanadaWarnings come from the respective national weather services. Their origin is retained with the evidence.
These sources are used for observation and calibration. They do not currently generate customer alerts on their own.
UCAR/ICECHIP provides ground references for separate comparisons. Maps, place names, time zones and warning boundaries use additional datasets; their attribution appears on the map and in the legal notice.
The providers supply source data. HailSignal produces the analyses and assessments.

How alerts are createdUnderstanding an alert
Estimated hail size and confidence are assessed separately. So you can put each alert into context.
Dents possible.
Elevated damage potential.
High damage potential.
An initial radar signal, not yet confirmed.
Matching radar products or a second, independent piece of evidence.
With a ground observation; in Germany, two independent WarnWetter app reports.
Four independent confirmations on site.
Large hail does not automatically mean high confidence. Downgrades are reported too.
