Hail size and PDR dispatch: what an estimate tells you

Larger hail can be relevant when looking for vehicle damage. A size estimate alone does not establish that repairable damage or customer jobs are available in the area.

Size is an estimate

Radar-estimated size is not a measurement at every point in the area. Individual hailstones and the size reaching the ground can differ. Always consider the confidence level and additional reports.

Conditions vary within an area

Hail and rain can occur close together within a storm. Sheltered vehicles have different exposure from vehicles parked outside. HailSignal supports area selection; it does not provide a list of damaged vehicles.

Distinguish US and European coverage

Check current coverage for your region. US radar and European sources provide different types of evidence. Swiss hail radar is seasonal; a regional warning alone does not replace a local hail-size estimate.

Make a practical decision

Combine a recent alert with location, size, supporting evidence and your travel radius. Contact people in the area before planning a long trip. Alerts inform that decision but do not guarantee repair jobs.
