The data behind the analysis
Data sources for our analyses
Radar, weather models and supporting evidence from traceable sources. HailSignal analyses these data – each alert identifies its sources.

National weather services via MeteoAlarm
Warnings come from the respective national weather services. Their origin is retained with the evidence.
Radar sources under evaluation
These sources are used for observation and calibration. They do not currently generate customer alerts on their own.
Reference and geographic data
UCAR/ICECHIP provides ground references for separate comparisons. Maps, place names, time zones and warning boundaries use additional datasets; their attribution appears on the map and in the legal notice.
The providers supply source data. HailSignal produces the analyses and assessments.

How alerts are createdUnderstanding an alert
Confidence, made clear.
Estimated hail size and confidence are assessed separately. So you can put each alert into context.
How large is the hail?
- Class 2
- 20–<30 mm
Dents possible.
- Class 3
- 30–<45 mm
Elevated damage potential.
- Class 4
- 45 mm and above
High damage potential.
How sure are we?
- C1
- Possible
An initial radar signal, not yet confirmed.
- C2
- Likely
Matching radar products or a second, independent piece of evidence.
- C3
- Very likely
With a verified observation from the ground.
- C4
- Confirmed
Four independent confirmations on site.
Large hail does not automatically mean high confidence. Downgrades are reported too.
