Why HailSignal?
HailSignal helps businesses that are needed after hail or protect themselves from it: find hail events, plan work, document what happened. We assess weather data for Germany, Switzerland with border areas and the contiguous US. Alerts describe the location, estimated hail size and supporting evidence; a storm track adds context when available. In Germany, size is only given as “(large) hail possible”. C2 can rely on radar evidence alone. Ground reports can raise the confidence level. Coverage and available data differ by area.

Evidence explained
Every alert states its confidence level. Radar evidence can establish C2; C3 also requires a verified public ground report. In Germany, two independent reports from the German Weather Service’s WarnWetter app count for this; nobody checks them individually.
Timing and limits
Processing cadence, data age and delivery are different measures. They do not imply a fixed time from hail onset to an alert.
Built for work before and after hail
HailSignal supports decisions after hail, when protecting against it and when documenting it. Depending on the available data, alerts provide:
- Location and estimated affected area
- Estimated hail size and class (in Germany only “(large) hail possible”), plus what to check in your field; no proof of actual damage
- Available storm track with direction and speed; an arrival note when the track is heading for your location
- confidence level with reasoning: how well the situation is proven
- A PDF hail report per storm, e.g. for insurers or customers
Better one alert too few than one false alarm
Radar estimates can be wrong. Size and confidence are reported separately. New or corrected evidence can change the assessment; matching updates and all-clears follow the delivery rules. The coverage page describes the available scope in each area.
